EWGA BALTIMORE VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

The EWGA Baltimore Regional Chapter needs YOU!!!

We're not asking for money (unless you have not yet paid your 2012 dues). We are asking for your creativity, energy and some time. Golf season is only a few months away and the volunteers on the Baltimore Chapter's Board are busy planning for lots of golf and social activities. If you want to have some fun and help make our chapter shine, contact Sharon Waller, Chapter President. You can help on a one time basis, e.g., organize a happy hour or captain a golf event, and also assist on an ongoing basis, e.g., work on building the membership of our chapter.

New this year will be TWO Spring Kick-Off events. The first will be held the evening of March 28th at Martin's West. This event will be a Golf Expo with fabulous speakers, sponsors, vendors and a surprise guest or two. The second event will be our popular Tee-Off at Diamond Ridge and The Woodlands. This is our first golf event of the season and you don't want to miss it! Volunteers are needed to help plan both events.

Opportunities abound in a range of activities: Social, Communication, Education & Player Development, Handicap, Golf Events, Golf Leagues, Membership and Sponsorship. If you are not able to make a commitment now, you can still express your interest in helping out later in the season. Every volunteer makes a valuable contribution to the success of the Baltimore Chapter and our members.

Groundhog Day just passed and Spring Training will follow right behind. The time to hibernate is over! Answer this Call for Volunteers!

“What is a Handicap, Why You Should Have One, and How to Establish One”

A golf handicap is a number that is used to make the competition between players of different skill levels more even.  When two golfers with different handicaps play together, the handicaps are used to even the playing field.

For example if golfer #1 has a handicap of 7 and golfer #2 has a handicap of 15 then golfer #1 takes 7 strokes off her final score and golfer #2 takes 15 strokes of her final score. There are a few benefits to having a handicap. It's an indication of your level of play, regardless of the course you're on. It is a great incentive to improve your game because it is based on your best 10 scores and it's a reflection of your potential, not your average score or strokes over par.

Establishing a USGA Handicap Index is not difficult. You simply need to be a member of a golf club that uses the USGA Handicapping System and begin reporting your scores. To establish a handicap you must submit your scores for 9 or 18 holes. Once you have 5 scores turned in, you'll get your handicap index. Thereafter, your handicap index will always be based on the lowest 10 of your last 20 rounds. If you are new to the game of golf and don't have a handicap index yet, use the maximum handicap index of 40.4 for women.

Please feel free to contact Patty DeGuilmi, our Handicap Chairperson if you have any questions or need assistance posting your scores.
